About Us

Proof Through the Night was created by Tim Cimino with the help of a lot of people, mostly in Pittsburgh.  Tim had the inspiration in 2005. He got the domain name from Scott Albert Johnson who had used it for some 9/11 concerts.

Tim’s vision for the site is that it be a nonpartisan voter education and empowerment project. Before this, Tim has been only minimally involved in politics. “Minimally” means that he has voted in almost every election, and had written many letters to elected representatives and other government officials. But he felt that much more was needed. Like most people, he has been concerned for years about the negative trends in politics. This dissatisfaction led to Proof Through the Night.

Donations to Proof Through the Night are tax-deductible because it is a project of World Peace One, a tax-exempt, tax-deductible nonprofit organization. World Peace One was started by Tim Cimino and friends in 1989. The name comes from the idea that if a World War I or II can start and spread, why not a “World Peace One?” Through it, Tim develops resources to help people change their lives so they can have a greater impact in the world. Its mission is “to help people examine their lives and make changes that improve the quality of life for all.” Gaining political proficiency through Proof Through the Night is certainly a change that can improve the quality of life for all.

World Peace One has always been funded primarily by donations from individuals. The name makes some people suspicious, but at this point it is essentially a vehicle for Tim to develop new ideas and resources to help others.

Free Membership

Membership allows you to receive reminder emails. These emails:

1. Remind you to set-up a pre-election "study party" the weekend before an election.

2.  Remind you to do some form of advocacy monthly. This email will include a link to current bills before Congress, and links to state and local representatives.

3.  Once a year, remind you to consider making an annual donation.

At a later date, you will be able to set up a free account, so you can choose the frequency of these emails, and so you can change your registered email address.  Right now, we are doing this by hand, so simply send an email to info@proofthroughthenight.org and you will be placed on the list.

Standards

1. Proof Through the Night is nonpartisan. This website will not endorse or oppose any specific legislation or candidates. However, we encourage and expect our program participants to do advocacy for the issues and candidates they care about.

2. Privacy. Any information you send will be kept private. We will not sell or pass on any information from participants who register. If we wish to quote a participant, we will ask permission first. In addition, we will do all we can do keep information secure.

3. Reminder emails to you will be only what we consider essential. For instance, we will not send you a lot of emails asking you to buy promotional items.

4. Transparency. No political writing is without bias and value judgments. For instance, Tim who has written most of the text believes that maintaining the environment is essential to our welfare. So you may see a pro-environment bias in the website context. While it’s impossible to make writing values-neutral, we do wish to avoid hot-button examples and issues in the content, so that you can focus on the process of becoming an informed and active voter. Tim general aims at the long-term interest of all, not just the long-term interests of Americans. But if you believe in the Golden Rule, it won't be hard to understand how helping others on this small planet is in your long-range best interest, too.

5. To avoid bias, we will accept donations for this project only from individuals. We will also solicit endorsements from a variety of points on the political spectrum.

6. Openness to feedback for the sake of improvement. We intend to do our level best to offer a quality web site. We welcome suggestions for improvement and for ways to make the site more user-friendly.
